Posted Aug 2nd, 2022 in 2022, spotlights, the wire

We are shining the spotlight on Lyne Beland, Practice Manager at Highmoor Dental in Edmonton, Alberta. Lyne tells us about her journey in the dental industry, the importance of creating a safe environment for patients, and her passion for helping others.

How long have you been a Practice Manager with Highmoor Dental?

I started as a Practice Manager with Scotia Square Dentistry in June 2019. Shortly after, I had the opportunity to join Highmoor Dental, and in the fall of 2021, I was promoted to Regional Manager for the Edmonton area.

Can you tell us about your career path, from what you wanted to be as a child to where you are now?

I started my career in the medical field over 30 years ago as a Medical Administrator and transitioned to an Office Manager. This was a great opportunity as I discovered a real passion for learning and working on the operational side of the business. I was able to complete my Business Administrative program while working and acquired some helpful business skills for my current role.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work?

I work with great people and I’m in a supportive organization. My teams collaborate to provide the best outcomes for our patients and clinics. There are a lot of opportunities within dentalcorp’s fast-paced network– it’s always changing and evolving. Every day is different and a constant adventure.

How has COVID-19 impacted you, your role, and the practices?

Although the pandemic was overwhelming, it was an opportunity for personal and professional growth. I am very social so I found it quite difficult not to be able to see friends and family, especially being away from my aging parents. Starting a new role during the pandemic and being new to the dental industry was quite challenging. I will never forget the call from our Regional Director, asking me to close the practice immediately. Also, implementing new processes and procedures was overwhelming, and I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support I received from the Support Centre team and other Practice Managers in my region. It was great to learn so much so quickly, teaching myself and the team to be more patient and compassionate towards others.

What’s next for you in your career?

My career goal is to continue to grow and excel in my new Regional Manager role to provide the best support for my Practice Managers and the clinics.

Anything else you’d like to add?

It has been an incredible three years working with dentalcorp. The support and opportunities have been astonishing.
