We’re shining the spotlight on Brett Meadus, Director, Operations at dentalcorp’s Support Centre. Brett tells us about his role in supporting practices to provide excellent patient care and his experience rescuing a tourist from a tree.
Tell us about your background – how long have you been with dentalcorp, and what were you doing before you joined?
September marked my third anniversary with dentalcorp. Before joining the organization, I worked in the Veterinary Industry for nine years.
Can you tell us a bit about your role on your team and what a typical day looks like?
My role encompasses providing support to our practice teams at the ground level. I work with our Practice Managers and Partners, developing operational plans that allow our practices to reach their full potential in providing exemplary patient care.
Tell us something funny that's happened to you.
When I worked in the hotel industry many years ago, we lost one of our tourists. The tour bus was about to leave, and the gentleman was nowhere to be found. I finally found him stuck in a tree a few minutes away from the hotel. He went for an early morning walk, encountered a bear, and climbed a tree for safety. The bear was long gone, but he was too afraid to climb down. He was in the tree for over two hours!
What are your aspirations for personal and professional growth? Do you have a 5-year plan?
I have two younger children: a 12-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. My 5-year plan is whatever their 5-year plan entails.
What advice do you have for new team members joining dentalcorp's Support Centre?
Take every opportunity to spend some time with our Practice teams. Each one within our network is unique, and I have found that as I spend more time with them, I am able to understand how we can better support their needs.
